Story
The geography of the Scottish Borders is defined by it’s rivers: in the North the Tweed and its tributaries Ettrick Water and Gala Water; and in the South the Teviot and its tributaries Slitrig Water and Borthwick Water. The towns of Galashiels, Selkirk and Hawick stand at the confluences of these rivers and these three towns are the heart of the A7 Centre of Mission. But I will use this Challenge to visit the far corners of the CoM, from Oxton in the north to Linhope in the south; from Ettrick Head in the west to Bonchester Bridge in the east. To share the love of Jesus with people that I meet and in so doing to raise money for the fabulous Amber Project. Here is one of their inspiring stories:
The Amber Project is our project for young people with experience of self harm. Ryan's story:"Ive been coming to The Amber Project for seven months. Ive taken part in the different workshops they run, but my favourite is the drama group. I love the improvisations we do, and I really enjoy acting. By pretending to be a different character, I can forget about my own worries for a while.Ive still got things going on inside my head, but Im working through them. Im not self-harming as much as I used to. Ive suffered with mental health issues my entire life, but theyve never been taken seriously. At school, theres no information available on mental health. I think that mental health is not understood or dealt with enough in society. Its great to come to The Amber Project...it gives me something to look forward to. We all look out for each other and, over time, Ive seen positive changes in the other young people who come as well. The Amber Project feels like home to me."
