Story
I am raising money for Access Adventures because I have seen the impact they have every day. and personally know the benefits of adaptive sport.
18 years ago I broke my back on a university ski trip and it changed my life in an instance. When the Dr told me I would never walk again, it felt like my life was over. I didn't know what my life would be like and thought I'd never be able to partake in the extreme sports that I enjoy. Having a spinal cord injury at 21 knocked my confidence, self-belief and identity.
Within a year of my injury I was skiing again. The feeling of leaving your wheelchair behind and hitting the slopes in indescribable. It was through sport like skiing and waterskiing that helped me regain my identity and help build up my confidence.
Life with a disability can be daunting and isolating. I helped set up Access Adventures because I wanted other people with disabilities to benefit from these opportunities to experience adaptive adventure sports and gain from their life changing benefits. I know personally how being involved in adaptive adventure sports can turn your life around and it's been incredible to witness the same effect on people on Access Adventures camps. Particularly in the last couple of years since covid.
I have always wanted to take part in the London Marathon but was never successful with the Ballot. Thanks to Buxtons Water I can now experience the challenge and raise money for Access Adventures.
Thank you so much for your support.
