For over 100 years, Alder Hey has been providing innovative high quality care for children and young people, Alder Hey Children’s Charity raised vital funds to help make Alder Hey Children’s hospital a world class, patient friendly hospital. Did you know they care for over 330,00 Children and families every year.
As well as giving every child and young person the very best care, the Nurses and Doctors make it part of their everyday care to make them feel happy, safe and confident as they play, learn and grow. At Alder Hey, the amazing team look after a child and their family and that includes mums, dads, brothers and sisters.
Liverpool Legend Jamie Carragher was treated at Alder Hey’s neonatal ward for the first six weeks of his life, and he has launched a fantastic appeal to raise £3m for the new Surgical NICU. The new unit is planned to offer a further 22 neonatal cots and will feature 18 individual family rooms where parents can be alongside their poorly new-borns whilst they’re receiving expert care.
Interesting facts about things Alder Hey hospital did before anyone else:
• Test penicillin, saving a child from pneumonia in 1944
• Establish a neonatal unit in the UK
• Pioneer various splints and appliances, including the Thomas splint
• Introduce 'liquid glass' to reduce infection
