Tim's Bike Packing Challenge . Off Road from John o Groats to Land End · 11 April 2022
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In April 2022, I'm an undertaking a mostly off-road bike-packing cycle challenge from John o Groats to Lands End to raise money for Greenpeace UK. The route I have planed will cover 1,321 miles and take me between 30-35 days. I will be cycling through some of the most isolated wilderness areas in Scotland and Northern England . The total ascent I will be climbing is over 27,000 meters (more than three times the height of Everest). I will be totally self supporting, which means I will be carrying all my own camping equipment, clothing, waterproofs, cooking equipment, food and water (restocked as required). The route I will be taking incorporates the whole of the Great North Trail (created by Cycling UK) from John o Groats to the Peak District and then onto small cycle ways, paths and Sustrans network of cycleways from Manchester and onto the West Country. I am uploading marked maps showing my planned route onto the Update section. These maps are best viewed on a tablet or laptop. Click on any map for a more detailed close-up picture. The maps should assist anybody who wishes to follow my progress or is thinking of joining me for part of the challenge. I will also be uploading regularly updates and photos whilst I am cycling the route. From John o Groats to Manchester, the maps will be from the UK Cycling Great North Trail guide book. For Manchester to Lands End, the maps are taken from Sustrans Network official guide of the John o Groats to Lands End cycle ride. Each section will show distance in miles, height ascent in meters and travel time in days.
100% of all monies raised will be donated to Greenpeace. I hope you will be able to help me raise my target of £6000.
I've been a continuous member of Greenpeace for 34 years. They have been at the forefront of environmental action and protests around the World for 50 years. Whether it's defending the Worlds rain forests from deforestation , preventing fossil fuel companies drilling and destroying pristine environments or stopping untold millions of tons of plastic waste being dumped in our Oceans, Greenpeace have been there 24/7, 365 days of the year. Make no mistake, If there was ever a time the World needed Greenpeace , this is it.
