Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
The Silk Road Mountain Race is an ultra endurance bike Packing race which takes place in the Tain Shan mountain range in Kyrgyzstan, the race is 1804km long with over 30500 metres of climbing and is off road predominantly, it is said to be the hardest mountain bike race there is.
The race starts at 10pm on August 13th 2021and the clock runs continuously until you cross the finish line, we are all given the route to follow by gps and all the racers have a gps tracking device so no short cuts!
Kyrgyzstan is all at altitude and we will get to ride over some 4000 metre passes and as such the weather can be quite brutal, we have been told to expect a temperature range of plus 40 to minus 12 degrees Celsius so need to pack a lot.
The race is totally self supported so I have to take and carry everything I need on my bike, food, water, clothes, shelter, sleeping bag, spares, well you get the idea. My bike fully packed without any food or water is 22kg so on the longer stretches between shops could easily be 30kg.
Cancer is such a devastating disease and will affect almost 1 out of 2 of us so the more research that is done the sooner a cure can be found and with covid putting a halt to a lot of fundraising its more important than ever now.
