Story
It's 150kms from the top of Pen Y Fan to my house. I'll be sleeping rough en route in a bivy bag. The money we raise will go to Walking with the Wounded. Your donation will really help. Thank you, and enjoy my suffering. 😊
Employment is a key factor in regaining independence and providing long-term security for veterans and their families. Our employment advisors find veterans who are homeless, in police custody or suffering with mental health issues and support a pathway into sustainable employment.
MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT
Your efforts will fund crucial therapy which can save jobs, relationships and lives. We work with the NHS to cut waiting times by providing one-to-one private therapy for ex servicemen and women with anxiety, depression or PTSD within an average of four days after consent.
KEEP VETERANS OUT OF CUSTODY
Ex servicemen are the largest occupational group of the adult male prison population.* Your efforts will enable us to identify veterans in police custody and support them to reintegrate into society and stay out of jail. Our re-offending rate is 7% against a national average of 17%. It works.
THE NEED
More than 150,000 British veterans who served post 1991 are likely to need our support. ** This figure excludes reservists, anyone who served pre-1991 in the Falklands, Iraq or N.Ireland and those who are socially disadvantaged by their service e.g. homeless or caught up in police custody – areas in which Walking With The Wounded provides critical support.
By organising a walk and fundraising you will directly support WWTW’s programmes to proactively reach out to the most ‘at risk’ ex servicemen and women with mental, physical or social injuries and support them to regain their independence after walking in far more dangerous environments for us.
