Story

St Wilfred's Hospice was an unimaginable support to Tim and his whole family throughout his battle with cancer. Tim had a strange pain in his leg which following tests was diagnosed as stage 4 cancer in June 2022. Treatment was quickly arranged in the form of radiation and chemotherapy with the hope of giving him more time. We were introduced to St Wilfred's (our local hospice) meeting their outreach and physiotherapy teams. Due to the fragility of the bone in his leg and the pain, walking (something Tim loved) had become a risk. St Wilfred's offered weekly physio at the hospice and gave him a walking frame.

With this support he was able to start daily walks into Bognor, using Strava to track his progress, building from shorter walks up to two miles sometimes in 70mph winds or having to detour via the skate park to avoid pebbles on the promenade (See picture above).  Amazing doctors and nurses with his progress and slightly terrifying us with his antics. He even helped mum complete this walk remotely last year.

Sadly even with all his determination and willpower this was not a battle he was able to win, and at the start of this year treatment was stopped due to the extent the cancer had spread. Whilst it was a conversation we never wanted to have nor hear, this time was made easier with the love, care and expertise of the amazing team at St Wilfred's. Dad as you may know was a very strong and independent man and hated hospitals. Thankfully through the support of St Wilfred's he was able to remain at home.

We cant put into words how impactful the support of the whole team was for both Dad and us. They allowed him care, kindness and independence. They gave us time, something money cannot buy. Their support kept us going and strong when we needed to. Many of the memories we have of Dad are thanks to the care and support St Wilfred’s offered.  We wouldn't wish this on anyone but we hope if anyone is ever in a similar position they have a St Wilfred's.

Please help us support St Wilfred's by buying Tim one last pint by way of a donation
