Story
At midnight on the 6th October I'll be cycling the 52 miles from Manchester to Blackpool with hundreds of others, finishing at around 5am under the Blackpool Illuminations, kept on especially for the occasion.
The event is organised by the British Heart Foundation for whom I'll be raising money; anything you can afford to spare will be gratefully received.
Heart and circulatory disease kills 1 in 4 in the UK and is a cause close to my...heart. My old man has been on the receiving end of two heart attacks, the first at 47; admittedly subsidised in no small part by a strict diet of ale and curry. He lost both his parents to the disease when they were not a lot older and without the work that BHF do, he probably wouldn’t be around today to send me daily updates from the Viz twitter account.
As part of his recovery and with some gentle persuasion from his son, we started going on regular bike rides. He won’t be doing this one though, that would probably cause a third...Nevertheless, I’ll be doing it on the bike he and I built together!
BHF researches all heart and circulatory diseases; heart disease, stroke, vascular dementia, diabetes and many more.
