Story
I was diagnosed with Mantle Cell Lymphoma (MCL) in Autumn 2014. Since then I've been through chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant. Although MCL is considered incurable, I am in remission and doing well - thanks in part to the information, advice and support provided by Lymphoma Action.
During April 2021 I will be taking part in the Lymphoma Action gaming challenge. But rather than simply play computer games to raise money, I will be writing a brand new one for my recently acquired 1983 Sharp MZ-700 computer! My BASIC and Z80 assembler skills are rusty, so this seems like the perfect chance to sharpen them up and raise funds for a really good cause.
You'll be able to follow my progress here and on my blog - https://z80ephemera.wordpress.com/
As a bonus, if I meet my fundraising target of £250, I will release the game into the wild so that you can play it too. Don't worry if you don't have a Sharp MZ-700 of your own (I mean, why would you?) - there is an excellent emulator available for this vintage machine that will enable you to "enjoy" the fruits of my labour.
The serious bit:
Taking part in this challenge raises money towards services to help people who may be feeling anxious, worried or scared. Lymphoma Action knows their information and support makes a real difference to them when they most need it. Due to the pandemic Lymphoma Action has had to adjust their services to ensure no one has to face their lymphoma alone. Their website, and the patient stories on there, show the range of newly available digital support that they offer (in addition to their existing helpline services and information) and the difference that they have made. Your support means so much to Lymphoma Action in these difficult times.
Thank you,
Tim.
