Story
Hi all,
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Firstly, I wanted to tell you a bit about why I'm doing this 13 mile marathon. This is something I've often kept very private but as I grow as a man, I feel it necessary to face the battles life throws at us.
When I was 17/18, I found out that my mum had Alzheimer's. A disease which starts very mildly but worsens over time. To myself, my dad and my mum herself, this was an incredibly heart breaking and distressing thing to find out. As the disease worsened, problems occured such as loss of thinking, reasoning, perception and communication. Eventually this extended to difficulties in functions like walking and eating without help and of course, those with Alzheimer's grow increasingly frail and need full time care. Something myself and my dad are incredibly thankful to the home for.
There are currently 520,000 in the UK who are recorded as living with dementia with most being over the age of 65. My mum found out when she in her mid 50s and now is in a very late stage of the disease.
Anybody who met or knew my mum knew she was a kind and loving woman who made all feel instantly comfortable.
I wanted to do this Marathon to not only boost awareness and raise money for a charity which is often overlooked but as a raw and meaningful lasting memory to my mum.
Thank you for reading this and thank you for any donation, big or small, your help can never be thanked enough.
