Story
Shortly after New Year 2018, our beloved former UCL Chemical Engineering Colleague, Deputy Head, Departmental Tutor, and Friend, Dr Tim Elson, passed away.
He spent almost 50 years at UCL, from chemical engineering student, graduating in 1972, until his retirement, not long before his too early departure.
Tim cared deeply about students, their academic progress and their wellbeing. He would remember alumni years later, and stay in touch. He was a true and honest man, but also wise and witty, someone always ready to help and take on the chores, instrumental in all organisational aspects in our department. Loyal and never seeking the limelight. The man behind the words. A quiet doer and the true soul of UCL Chemical Engineering.
Over the past year, a working group has looked into a fitting tribute in his memory, and thought it most appropriate if there were a “Dr Tim Elson Memorial Fund” to help students, as the need arises and evolves over time, examples being hardship cases, bursaries, and prizes.
Your generous contribution, as small or large as it be, will serve to “do good” in memory of a man who has devoted himself so much to all of us in the UCL Chemical Engineering family, and especially its students.
