Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page even if it is the third time you've had the 'delve deep' for another blasted event someone is doing..
I made two New Year’s resolutions for 2019. One of them was to run 1,000 miles in 2019.
We live in Inkpen village. Large in space but small in people. Inkpen Memorial Playing field was bequeathed by Geoffrey Edward Huth in 1946 and was intended for the ‘maintenance and improvement of the physical well-being of residents in Inkpen by the provision of facilities for physical training and recreation’ and in memory of those who died in both world wars.
The pavilion is now not in for purpose and the playground needs much improvement / replacement to bring it up to H&S standards.
I am aware there are, on the face of it, many more worthy causes to support but small community projects remain important to the fabric of this small island.
Inkpen Primary School use the playing fields for their science lessons, games and Sport’s Day but the poor state of the pavilion and playground is not fitting for the children. The facilities are not inviting for visiting football and cricket teams – again, preventing interaction.
Many families depend on this space for recreation and to meet with other villagers. It is hoped these additions will provide a strong community spirit and attractive facilities to encourage a more active life.
Villagers of all ages have already volunteered to improve the grounds - from planting hedges, painting benches, to building cricket nets and this has resulted in the Greenham Trust donating £65,000 to the fund on the condition the village match this sum.
As I ran the lanes and glorious countryside listening to pan pipe interpretations of late 80’s / early 90’s metal classics, I thought perhaps I could make this challenge do more than wear out my Clarks Commandos.
1,000 miles target hit - the last mile with the bemused family. Not as many as Eddie Izzard but probably more than that poor chap who had to be craned out of his house as he forgot to stop eating.
Like this email, it’s a bit of a slog but any sum will help enormously..even if it's only £1 a mile ;-). Effectively, Greenham Trust are doubling anything you give.
Alternatively, how about a few £’s in recognition that this email doesn’t contain an exclamation mark? A rare achievement and well below the national average of about 10 per sentence.
Many thanks
Tim
