Story
In 2023, it will be 30 years since our dad, Mike, died after a long fight with bowel cancer. We three brothers, Tom, Nick and James will be running the London Marathon in April stride-for-stride for Bowel Cancer UK to mark the 30 years in memory of our dad. We are hoping to raise £7500 for a cause close to our family's heart.
Our dad Mike was known for his kindness, compassion and spent his career supporting disadvantaged young people with their careers. He had a dry humour and kept his Yorkshire wit right up until his passing. He was a huge Sheffield Wednesday fan (which didn't bring him much joy), a keen golfer and was nicknamed the 'demon bowler' by his cricket team mates. Being diagnosed with cancer in the prime of his life with three sons all aged under 7, including James who was only a few weeks old, was devastating. Perhaps the most devastating is that the majority of bowel cancer is now treatable and preventable. Bowel Cancer UK educate the public and professionals and raise awareness of the second biggest cancer killer in the UK. Their vision is a future where nobody dies of bowel cancer.
This charity means a lot to the three of us and the work they do is incredible. For those that know us well, will know it has not been easy losing our dad at such young ages. Luckily, we had the strength of our mum, Judy, to support us over these past 30 years. Bowel Cancer UK provide expert information and support families like ours affected by the disease at every step.
With every pound and penny making a difference please donate what you can to help push us all three of us over the finish line and mark 30 years in memory of our dad.
