In 2005, Thornhill School (Sunderland, Tyne and Wear) raised an amazing £17000 for Cancer Research . This achievement was recognized by Cancer Research UK and the school was awarded the “ The flame of hope 2005 – 06 “ award , as the school raised more money than another school in the UK.
Money is raised in number of ways;
Bag Packs: Pupils helping customers bag there shopping at local supermarkets and DIY stores.
Sponsored events: Pupils take part in numerous events across the school calendar, from sponsored walks/runs, to sponsored silence.
Bucket Collection: Any loose change is collected at the Canteen and the school gate!
Staff sponsored events: A Ladies team has recently taken part in a local run and raised over £1500. A member of staff completed the London Marathon in 2005 and Mr Leadbeater will try and complete the Chicago Marathon!
As a School we are trying to beat last year’s total and are aiming for £20000. If you have any doubts about the cause:
If you are a parent, teacher or you have just seen this website address, then please give generously: help us reach our target and more importantly help us beat cancer.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Cancer Research will receive your money faster and, if you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
