Thomas served as a Royal Marine from October 2005 - 2009. He recently passed away unexpectedly on 18th May 2015, at the age of 31, after suffering from what we believe to be post traumatic stress and depression. Tom supported Help for Heroes and has raised money in the past for them; so, we would like to carry on fundraising on his behalf.
Help for Heroes offer a wellbeing service, H4H Hidden Wounds. They support veterans and their families with mental health. It is important for families to understand mental health so that they can support each other effectively.
Tom was intelligent, successful and had a huge family network that loved him. He lived with a supportive girlfriend and step children in a beautiful home. Despite this, he did not seek the medical help he needed to help him cope with his thoughts and feelings and being very private, protective and proud, he rarely shared them with loved ones either. His hidden wounds have left his family and friends heart-broken.
We want to raise the profile of H4H hidden wounds, to help families avoid the finality we have suffered. Although Tom has passed, it does not mean the problem has gone with him. There are other sufferers and their families to think of and with your help, H4H Hidden Wounds can support people like Tom and prevent families suffering a similar outcome.
'In the same way that you need to keep physically fit, it is important to maintain a healthy mind.'
All donations big or small will be gratefully received - please remember to Gift Aid. We aim to raise 31, 000 - that's 1000 for every year that Tom was with us.
