I'm running a marathon in 3 months! Yikes!!!
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
26.2 miles is a long way. In truth, I'm absolutely daunted at the prospect of running a marathon. The gruelling months of training, the wet winter nights, the tearful look in my eye as I refuse the offer of pizza... All to be capped off by a ridiculous display of masochism that will doubtlessly leave me a pathetic, sobbing wreck. I don't like running. I like pizza and beer. So, it was always going to take something hugely important to make me decide to run a marathon- and that something was the Alzheimers Support charity.
My Dad passed away from early onset Alzheimers. It was only living with someone who had the disease and seeing them fade away before my very eyes that made me realise what a truly terrible disease this was, and a cursory look at the facts had me dumbfounded when I realised how many people it affected. And for each person who has the disease there are ten more friends and family who suffer with them throughout their illness.
This is my chance to give something back and it's also an opportunity to spread awareness, raise money and contribute to a cause that fights against the disease, so please help me by sponsoring whatever you can. It'll be worth it when you see the photo of the sweaty, broken, Thomas-shaped figure slumped across the finish line on April 15th!
There are currently over 750,000 people with dementia in the UK and
this figure will rise to over 1 million by 2021.
Dementia is terminal and there is no cure. One in three people over 65 will die with dementia.
Please donate as much as possible, every penny will help. Thank you so much for your support, I will be thinking of you all as I cross that line :)
