Story

A U T I S M A W A R E N E S S

So here goes...

As most of you know, our little boy Thomas is Non Verbal Autistic and suffers with severe Global Developmental Delay. A complete life changer for us all and one that initially brought on so much sadness, anxiety and worry - truth be told it's all still there. But we buy in, pull on our big pants and go at it with everything we have.

The main thing for us is making sure that Thomas is happy, healthy and gets the support he needs and deserves. Support is something that we struggle with and I know that we're not the only parents of a special needs child that feel this.

Awareness. This is a big one that needs improvement. There are over 700,000 people that suffer with Autism and yet every week I'll meet or get a message from someone asking about Thomas' needs as they don't know much about it. I even found myself calling the dentist Thursday after his appointment explaining that the way she dealt with Thomas and spoke to myself were both unacceptable and unnecessary.

There is one week a year where autism is given the big push - personally (and obviously) I feel this should be more - to educate and raise awareness for our awesomely autistic superheroes.

Thomas and I, along with our best @jessie__ayers will be walking the 5k Spectrum Colour Walk at Battersea Park on April 2nd for Autism Awareness. I have set a Just Giving page where the money raised will go to the National Autistic Awareness Society. Every penny raised will help deliver ambitious plans to transform our society into one that truly works for autistic people.
