Story

Shine is almost entirely funded by the generosity of the general public. Your donation changes lives. It will enable them to provide vital early intervention, support groups, training events, information, reassurance and so much more.

When our son Max was diagnosed with spina bifida, I had no idea what that really meant for him, his outlook or his potential quality of life. Shine was an excellent source of information and support as we moved from that moment in time, through in-utero surgery, experiencing worry mixed with an unhealthy level of denial of my part, through to his premature birth.

Now 2 and a half years old (despite several hospital stays during his first few months), Max is fortunate enough that his surgery has had a profoundly positive effect and rather than the worst case prognosis we received, he is a happy, playful, cheeky and healthy little boy who brings a smile to all of us and continues to exceed all expectations.

By supporting Shine, you will be enabling them to support many more families to understand their child's diagnosis, come to terms with the full breadth of health and mobility issues which they may face throughout their lives and to have a helpful team to speak with for any questions they have in the years which follow.
