I have been so fortunate in my life to have been given all the advantages of a decent education and stable background.
Alas, this is not the case for many. Having been on numerous cycle tours in the Balkans I have had many friendly meetings with those from a Romani background. They have a history of strong traditions that has been on too many occasions interrupted such as was their tragic plight during the holocaust.
Many modern Roma communities live in poverty and the children are not given the opportunities to reach their potential.
I set off from Leipzig on the afternoon of the 19th of July traveling to Odessa in Ukraine where I shall embark on a boat journey to Batumi Georgia. Thereafter I intend to cross into Armenia between the 15th and 20th of August.
The daily riding has taken its toll covering more than 1000km in the first week. Knowing that donations are made in the name of this journey will make the pain bearable and will enforce my drive to continue.
Thank you for donating.
