Story
*Update* - Target now increased to £6,000!!!
Andrea and Julien tell us more about their participation in the Sierra Leone (Half) Marathon ('SLM') which takes place from the 26th April – 1st May this year:
I cannot describe how excited I am to be representing my employer, Thomas Miller, at SLM this year, raising vital funds to support our global charity partner Street Child.
This is a comeback for me to take on a true challenge, after the pandemic prevented me from running the London Marathon for charity in 2020 - a bitter pill to swallow!
Now I can’t wait to hit the road again and I am willing to give all I have in order to face the challenges of the African hot temperatures and the extreme humidity. Furthermore, I am incredibly motivated by this unique opportunity to connect with the local people, culture and environment and, most importantly, to raise as much money as I can to help the children Street Child support in Sierra Leone, and other locations across Europe, Africa and Asia, to have a better health and a better education. This is the sole purpose of me taking part in this event: to ensure children are safe, in school and learning.
So can I ask that you help me donate whatever you can – but be generous please! – by using the “donate” button. And please also help spread the word and do share this page with others. Every single pound counts.
Thanks a million in advance for your contribution, and I look forward to updating you on my experience
Andrea Gentile
I am excited to be running the SLM 2023 raising vital funds to support Thomas Miller's global charity partner Street Child – a charity focused on protecting and educating children around the world.
Over more than 15 years with the TT Club I have been fortunate to visit a number of countries in Africa from Morocco to Kenya, Ghana and South Africa. During that time I have seen first-hand the wonderful kindness and spirit of Africa while at the same time seeing some of the challenges that affect children across the continent through poverty & a lack of education infrastructure.
It costs approximately €30 to provide schooling for a year for one child so for every €210 raised, Street Child will be able to put a child all the way through seven years of primary education. €90 provides a whole classroom with learning materials.
Around the marathon race day I will have the opportunity to see some of the existing Street Child projects as I look to raise money to help an amazing charity with their projects in Sierra Leone and around the world.
Thank you very much for your support.
