On 8th September I will be attempting to complete my 2nd ever Half Marathon... the Simply Health Great North Run 2019 in Newcastle to help raise vital funds for Brain Tumour Research.

Brain tumours are indiscriminate; they can affect anyone at any age. What’s more, they kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer... yet historically just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease.

In January 2018 my cousin Zara, 35 was diagnosed with a Glioblastoma - Grade 4 Brain Tumour.

This came as a devastating shock to Zara and all of her family and friends.

She is currently undergoing treatment after an operation to help offer her precious time to spend with her Fiancé Matthew and two boys, Noah (aged 5) and Isaac (aged 1). But due to the aggressive nature of brain tumours, it is likely to return.

Before this diagnosis Zara was a fantastic teacher for over 14 years to many children. She has touched the lives of many people. Her loving family and friends want to give her the memories and time she deserves.

Her friends set up the charity page "Zara's Army" to raise funds, it has been amazing to see the support from family , friends and the local community through donations at various charity events, with more to follow!

I have therefore decided to take part in the Great North Run to help in anyway I can to raise funds for Brain Tumour Research, to reduce the chances of other families having to go through similar situations and hopefully one day find a cure!

For my first Half Marathon thanks to fantastic support I managed to raise just over £900 for Cancer Research UK and Zara's Army.

This time I would like to try and surpass the £1,000 mark for Brain Tumour Research!
