A new challenge: Accenture-VSO Charity Challenge – Trekking the Simien Mountains, Ethiopia in March 2012 

 

 

After volunteering in Vietnam and last year climbing Kilimanjaro, this time I will be trekking the Simien mountains in Ethiopia to support the work of VSO.

 

In March 2012 I will be one of approximately 10 colleagues from all over the world participating in a ’Charity Challenge‘ in collaboration with VSO. The destination is Ethiopia where we will trek the Simien mountains, with Ras Dejen as highest point at 4,260 m, for 8 days. Participating in this challenge means – next to a beautiful and active trip - making a personal commitment to raise a certain amount of money in advance for VSO. I will off course be covering the costs of my trip myself and your complete donation is going to VSO. 

At the start of the trip we will be visiting one of the development projects in Addis Ababa, to see firsthand how the donations are used and the lives of local beneficiaries has been improved.

 

About VSO
For those who have not heard me talk about it before: VSO (Voluntary Service Overseas - http://www.vso.org.uk) is a charity organization who supports and runs worldwide development projects in third world countries. In their constant fight against poverty VSO volunteers train the locals in the third world countries and help them build up certain infrastructures to ease the every-day-life for them. Within the programs there is special focus on people living with HIV and Aids and people with disabilities.

To me VSO is an important cause. I had a great time in Vietnam, working for a year at the Thai Binh provincial Red Cross and helping the staff increase their skills. I am hoping you will sponsor me to enable VSO continuing their work and to make this Charity Challenge a big success.
