We help children and youths in Fiji to reach their potential

Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, it is much appreciated.

This Summer I will be undergoing an international volunteering project to Fiji with a company called Think Pacific. Think Pacific is charity based in Fiji and their mission is to promote and develop education, going to Fiji will allow me to contribute to this project and help more people in various communities.

From a young age, I have always taken an interest in international affairs and how I can improve the lives of those in need. Having grown up in England, I have been privileged enough to receive free full time education until 18 years of age; but as my background has its roots in Ghana, I am aware that this is not the case for every child, I would love to use my skills that I have gained as a children’s tutor to tend to the children’s needs.

Schools in Fiji, particularly those in rural areas are understaffed and severely lacking in basic materials. This forces many children to drop out of education early. In February 2016, Fiji witnessed its worst cyclone ever recorded. Over 400 schools were damaged, 50,000 families displaced, and entire communities destroyed. Fiji is still suffering the consequences of this cyclone today, so any funds donated to this charity will be greatly appreciated. Though Think Pacific was only founded 8 years ago, they have already built 72 kindergartens and have consequently increased the literacy levels of the children in Fiji by 40%, this charity is working efficiently and effectively to change the lives of so many children.

I will be attending teaching workshops to familiarise myself with the Fijian school curriculum to teach maths and English in remote Fijian primary schools. So, whatever the Fijian children want to achieve in their lives, whether it is to become doctors, ministers, teachers or even politicians they will have the educational backing to achieve their goals.

Another aim of the project is to provide the children with the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities. I love music and especially love to sing. For this reason, my aim is to form a Children’s Gospel Choir. I plan to teach the children uplifting and joyful Gospel songs. To boost their confidence and help them to achieve performances that they can be proud of.

I would really like all your help to raise £1000 for Think Pacific. The £1000 will not go to my expenses, it will go towards directly funding the projects in Fiji. For example, to buy educational and sports resources, provide local scholarships and grants, build kindergartens, health clinics, roads, training for teachers etc. I really believe that education is a very important way to alleviate a country out of poverty. One day I would love to see a world in which all children have access to good education. For this reason, I would be so grateful if you could help me to raise £1000 before the 10th May 2018 for the Think Pacific Charity before I leave for Fiji for a month.

Any donations are welcome and very much appreciated! Thank you so much for all your help and support on this project!
