Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving fundraising page where I am planning to raise £245 or more if I can, in support of Prostate Cancer by walking 25 km of the Cotswold Way Challenge.
My brother, Nick, was diagnosed with prostate cancer in July last year. He has been undergoing hormone treatment since then and later this month, March, he will be undergoing brachytherapy treatment - essentially targeted irridium injections, followed by six weeks of radiotherapy after which he will continue with the hormone treatment. His message to all men out there over 50 or those who have a concern no matter how small, ‘ get yourselves PSA tested - catch the deadly snake that wants to bite.’ ‘There are more men dying of prostate cancer than women of breast cancer but many men do not come forward when there are small signs...not that there needs to be any sign...’
My brother didn’t have any symptoms- he merely went for an annual well man’s check and asked for a PSA test. 10,000 men die each year of the disease, tests can be unreliable and research is badly underfunded so we need to change this.
I’ve not raised money through walking before. I walk regularly with a small group and through a friend who introduced me to All Seasons Nordic Walking I decided to tackle this challenge. I had a total knee replacement some years ago and so the hilly course of the Cotswold Way will be my challenge!
Your contribution will make a difference and keep me focused on training and on the day.
So please dig deep and donate now. Your generosity will make a difference.
