Story
As a band we have always endeavoured to be as involved and engaged with the modern world as possible. With songs like this one, we hoped to better understand the position of people whose lives we can't even begin to comprehend, and hopefully help others to understand or relate to the them that bit better also.
For Refugee Week 2017, we are releasing this single with an
accompanying short film. The single download is free, but we ask that
you donate whatever you can in return.

The song was written by myself and the band a few months ago, I wrote the lyrics after reading a particularly harrowing news story that affected me on a very personal level – about a group of refugees that suffocated in the back of a van. I wrote the lyrics right then and there on my phone, in one sitting. I then took it to the band with a basic outline of the song. It never happens that we just play something through and it works, but it did, and I think it is a powerful song that tells a story that I believe should be heard, and has the potential to make a difference if it is heard.
The song is called The Refugee. Loosely it tells the story of a refugee and his journey across The Channel into the UK, though it more broadly is being told as a story in order to attempt on my part to understand what a refugee would be thinking, feeling and hoping. Hopefully I have done the tiniest bit of justice to the situation these people find themselves in. We have also had a fantastic short film produced for us by Delilah Rose Niel, which can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/edit?o=U&video_id=2m88TLV5eLo
Thank you very much in advance,
