Story
We are a group of enthusiastic conservationists, film-makers and entrepreneurs who want to push recycling limits, foster the spirit of adventure, and promote global sustainability. We are undertaking a gruelling 24-hour, over 44km (27 miles) paddle from the Island of Tenerife to its Canarian neighbour, La Gomera, in a homemade kayak constructed almost entirely from recycled plastic water bottles.
Why?
To raise awareness for the 40 million plastic water bottles which are turned into landfill every single day. If we can make this adventure happen, surely others can take the time to recycle their plastic bottles?
The Kayak: we will be taking old plastic water bottles and attaching them to a frame made from recycled plastic tubing, held together with a sprinkling of good faith and a barrels worth of optimism. This modest vessel may not be advanced but we trust it to take us the entire way.
All funds raised will be donated to a fantastic, innovative project which the AWF has created. “Plant a Tree, Fund a Dream” provides education to children in Africa who have succeeded in planting and caring for trees to rebuild African forests. Therefore this project not only benefits the environment but also entire communities in Sierra Leone and other African nations.
Please donate as much or as little as you can to this incredibly worthy cause, to make the blisters/exhaustion/hyperthermia all the worthwhile!
