Story

The Ladies of The Park Inn will be completing the 16 mile walk from Seaham to Hartlepool in an effort to raise money to save the Hartlepool Heugh Battery Museum from closure, protecting the history of our town and remembering those who lost their lives.

Any donations, big or small, will be greatly appreciated!

Back in 1999, with the help of over 30 local volunteers, the regeneration of a derelict site on the Ancient Headland of Hartlepool was undertaken. The volunteers wanted to preserve and restore what was left of the only First World War battlefield in the UK. Early work to create the Heugh Battery Museum was well supported by the National Lottery and many other funders. However, in recent times, funding has been harder to secure and the Museum has worked hard to try to be self-sufficient, with school visits, weekend visitors and donations keeping the doors open.Sadly, the goodwill of our volunteers and visitors is not enough. To enable the Heugh Battery Museum to survive, grow and have a future, we need your help. Any donation you give will help keep the museum, its artefacts, its archives and the grounds open and accessible for generations to come.

The Heugh Battery Museum occupies the site of the Heugh Gun Battery, which took part in a land to sea battle with the German Navy in 1914. The museum preserves this site of national military importance and is a great place to visit to find out more about the history of warfare and it's effects.
