Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Over three years ago, I set out on a solo cycle ride around the world to raise awareness for refugees. I got on my bike outside the UN Office in Geneva and just started pedaling. Eleven months, 21 countries and more than 14,500 miles later, the pandemic cut my journey short in Phoenix, Arizona.
The contrasts and changes I witnessed along the road were huge. I encountered people from numerous faiths and cultures who shared time with me, a meal or a place to stay. Whether in Ukraine, Uzbekistan or Thailand, I came to see that we are all united by our basic needs for survival - food, water, shelter and sanitation. Seeing this so vividly has made me want to continue to support those who have these fundamental basic needs taken away from them.
On Sunday 9 October, I will be getting back on my bike. This time, my aim is to raise £5,000 for UNHCR, the United Nations Refugee Agency, to support those uprooted by conflict, persecution and violence - a community that has grown by a staggering 10 million since I set off in 2019.
I plan to pedal a further 10,000 miles from Phoenix back to Geneva, to finish my ride. From Phoenix, I’ll be heading to Miami then onto Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Western Sahara, Morocco, Gibraltar, Spain, Portugal, Andorra, France and Switzerland.
The distance of the previous journey and this will equal one lap of the Earth’s circumference.
At the time when they most need it, Help me meet my goal and join me on my lap around the Earth.
Please follow my journey on Instagram @theofoster_ and twitter @theoworldcycle, I will be posting regular updates on my progress.
