Story
On Sunday 23rd April 2017, the four of us will all be running the London Marathon in memory of David John Morley – a loving husband to Jane and a beloved Dad of Nicholas, Elizabeth and Alexandra, who was diagnosed at 40 with Parkinsons’ then 5 years later with dementia but unfortunately lost his battle against these illnesses at the age of only 50 in November 2014.
He was an inspiration to all, with his zest for life, adventure and a real family man who enjoyed the outdoor life and was the person who got me interested in
running.
As the illness progressed significantly in 2009, it was necessary to gain support from medical staff and from 2011 David attended a day centre during the week but would come home each evening as we felt it so important to keep the family unit together. This continued until April 2014, when unfortunately the illness took a turn for the worse. This wasn’t going to deter the family and with the support of the medical staff, David was nursed at home until the November 2014.
It was the support, dedication of all the various medical staff, carers and the local hospice that we are extremely grateful for. Charities such as the ‘Hospice Of The Good Shepherd’ are so important to both patients and their families when they face these difficult situations and particularly in providing dignified end of life care.
In order to ‘Give something back’, we have decided to run the Virgin London Marathon in April this year in aid of ‘Hospice Of The Good Shepherd’ as a way of saying ‘Thank You’ for the support , dedication to all the medical staff involved in David’s care.
By running this marathon, we are hoping to raise a minimum of £5000 as a way of ‘Giving something Back’.
None of us know when we may need their support and thus we would be grateful if you would sponsor us. Thank
you.
