Story
At the beginning of the year our friend, Gregg McMaster, passed away in tragic circumstances. With the support of his family and friends our football team will compete for a trophy named in his honour on an annual basis beginning with the inaugural McMaster Cup match at the end of May. The match and post-match BBQ will not only provide a platform for us to get together and talk about Gregg but it will also offer an opportunity for us to talk frankly about mental health and suicide, overcoming the awkwardness, denial, secrecy and avoidance which often make it a taboo subject. With that in mind we are looking to raise funds in a slightly different way:
Pennies for your thoughts
1. Instead of the usual good luck messages for the match please use the comments field to vent a feeling, worry, thought or problem you have been holding onto.
2. If you have the time and money please make a donation for each comment you make and feel free to make more than one donation.
3. If you find it too difficult at this stage to provide your full name alongside your comment, you can just provide your forename or even make your post anonymous. Reading about a shared problem, even if it is anonymous, may at least provide some comfort to someone in a similar situation.
4. Of course, you can make donations in the usual manner if you wish.
(NB. The payment set-up means that, as creator of this page, I may be able to see that payments are made from PayPal accounts and emails which could reveal the identity of the person donating. If you choose to make your comment anonymous I will not discuss the details with any other person as this would not be in keeping with the reason behind setting up this page. Ewen.)
While all of the above is being done for good reason we would be stopping short if we did not signpost anyone affected by this page to the appropriate help. If this strikes a chord with you then please follow the link below which will tell you who can help and how you can contact them:
