Story

Picture the scene …

I’m at Denbies wine estate with my little sis (Kate Scott) enjoying a small tasting glass of local wine - our 2nd of the day. It’s sat 18th Jun 2022 and the sun is shining, its a beautiful day.

No, we weren’t on a wine tasting visit, rather this was just a short interlude - 1 of 23 - interspersed between running 24 times around a 1-mile loop of the vineyard over a 24hr period - the infamous “P24 Longest Day” Race! It was great fun, tiring, hard work (especially in the middle of the night when the wind, rain & lightning picked up!) but we managed lots of laughs, met some lovely people & sampled a couple of wines :)

So it’s a bit late to ask for money for an event from nearly 5 months ago I hear you say! Well, you’re right, but during said event (possibly before it got very hard & after I’d had a glass or 2!) I said to Kate that I needed another goal after this - something else to “look forward” to. Ha! So we signed up to the Ranscombe Autumn Challenge: http://www.saxon-shore.com/ranscombe_autumn/ … run as many loops of the c.3.75mile circuit as possible in 8hrs!

Why why why why? Because we’re crazy.

Kate has done this (& several other “ultras”) before, but apparently they don’t really get any easier! And for me, it’ll be my first. Up until about 3 weeks ago I’d never run more than a 1/2 marathon distance. But, our goal is to get to 50km (31.08miles) - officially an “ultra”.

So far the training has gone well (apart from a couple of short-term minor injuries for us both), but we’re up to 18-20 mile training runs, so fingers crossed!

We decided to run in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society. A very very worthy cause; a cause which sadly has recently started to affect our family and something which is also sadly all too common in today’s world.

Whilst we’re very aware of the challenges facing everyone today with an unprecedented cost of living crisis, we would be immensely grateful if you could spare any amount - however small - to our cause. It would mean a lot to us.

With lots of love & thanks,

The mad siblings
X
