My amazingly wonderful friend Lucy was diagnosed with a rare condition called pulmonary hypertension (PH) over six years ago. PH is a form of high blood pressure in the lungs it causes the heart to work harder when pumping blood around the body. It is an incredibly debilitating illness, one which has no ‘cure’.

Lucy never failed to amaze me with her courage and positivity, living with such a difficult illness. Lucy was a truly special person, she was so funny, beautiful, kind, caring and completely stylish, her wonderful personality made her one of the most treasured people I have ever known. Lucy sadly lost her fight with PH in April 2008, she was only 24.

I am running the London Marathon in memory of Lucy, to continue to spread the Lucy Effect as far and as wide as I can. I also hope to raise awareness about PH and to raise as much money as possible for PHA.
