Story
In December 2022, we will be setting off on an adventure – to row 3,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean!
Long-time friends and fellow Kiwis, Gowyn Jones & Jacob Boston, will row our purpose-built 7 metre/24 foot ocean rowing boat “Blue Steel” from San Sebastian in the Canary Islands to English Harbour in Antigua.
Departing with 40 other boats as part of the annual Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, we’ll be completely alone and self-sufficient for up to 60 days, eating 400 freeze-dried meals and using solar power to turn sea water into drinking water.
We have taken on this extraordinary challenge as a personal mission simply because we think it’s an interesting thing to do with our lives. No promises of race wins, world records, social media exposure or corporate sponsorships. Just two tech nerds from New Zealand drifting about an ocean for months pretending to be global adventurers. I am curious about just how we’ll react to the extremes of hardship and awe that we’ll experience 1,000 miles from the nearest land.
In September this year, my Mum was diagnosed with Parkinson's. We are fortunate that there are some fantastic treatments available to help manage the condition and nothing will slow her down, but there isn't a cure.
Donations made through this page are directed into medical research to find a cure for Parkinson’s. It would be awesome to think that what we’re doing out in the ocean could help impact many thousands of lives.
From Gowyn, Jacob and the extended Kiwi Warrioars family, thank you so much for following and supporting our adventure!
