Story
Jeremy and I are running the London Marathon this year to raise money for Sarcoma UK and the new Royal Surrey Cancer & Surgical Innovation Centre (a project Jeremy started last year when he realised how serious the Covid backlog had become but what brilliant care is on offer at the Royal Surrey).
In 2020, I was diagnosed with Sarcoma - a particularly aggressive cancer. I had major surgery on my right leg not knowing I would ever walk or run again and since then the battle has continued with surgery on both of my lungs. I have been in and out of hospital pretty constantly but have received excellent treatment from the NHS and am still fighting on nearly three years later. It does, however, remain a huge battle for me and my family. I asked Jeremy to run the marathon for the first time with me - an offer that was nervously accepted!
Sarcoma UK is am amazing, but small, charity that supports people like me on their distressing journey with this awful disease. Not only does it offer counselling and invaluable help and advice but also funds essential research in the global fight to find a cure for this cancer. Your donation will make a BIG difference to these guys!
We have been training over the hot summer and so far have managed a half marathon in Shere, an 18 mile route along the River Wey between Godalming and Woking and a rather hilly 20 mile loop around the stunning countryside of Hambledon and Hascombe. My right leg has been particularly troublesome and painful to run on but I am just so delighted to actually still have this leg and be here fund raising for these wonderful causes.
Anyone who feels able to support us in the Marathon please do!
Thank you in advance.
