We run a range of hostels and projects to help homeless people rebuild their lives

Story

Friends, family and fellow bloggers,

For the past 8 months I’ve been knee deep in plaster, painting and asbestos while we continue to renovate our home. The unforseen tragedies that is our building project. Our failures and fortunes in renovating are updated on the blog www.thehousecalledabe.wordpress.com

And while we may not have a kitchen- I do have a home and it is still standing. Sometimes I even get to decorate a room, by choosing colours and painting the ceiling. All of this makes me super lucky, and my husband super patient.

Access to housing is impossible right now- it’s effecting everyone from people saving for a deposit to the most vulnerable and destitute in society. The cocktail that is the housing crisis, welfare reform and recession have made having a safe place to sleep at night, one of the most challenging things in the world. And it sooo shouldn’t be.

Because having a bed for your head is the first step to lots of things, like leaving an abusive relationship, getting off drugs, finding a stable job or starting an education. Without a safe and stable place to call your own, everything else in life is unmanageable.

I think most people start off with some form of housing, it’s a short road to becoming homeless and a long road to getting back on your feet.

So I’m running a half marathon to raise some mullah to help someone else have a safe place to sleep. It’s not much really, but it is a small way to give back and give thanks for what we have.

I know times are tight for everyone so just a ‘good luck on the blisters,’ is all I’m asking for. But if you think you can give and would like to help out, thank you. St. Mungos is an innovative charity that helps really vulnerable people into housing. You’ll be helping someone else get one step closer to leaving a really bad situation.

It’s modern times, I don’t have to go knocking on people’s doors, you can donate online.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving. Bonus, they say they’ll never sell your details or send unwanted emails. They may however give (not sell) the government your details….. But hey, so does google.

Once you donate, JustGiving sends your money directly to the charity and not me. This is good news for those of you who aren’t convinced I can actually manage 13 miles
