Story
Since I was little I have been surrounded by cats. My Mum grew up with them too, and my earliest memories contain lots of feline friends.
When my childhood cat Peggy (who my Mum had loved since 1990 - 6 years before I was even born) passed away due to her old age, we were heartbroken and knew we needed another bundle of joy to fill our home with personality and warmth. My Mum sent an email to Cats Protection explaining that we needed a loving kitty to adopt our family and the rest was history. This was our first encounter with Cats Protection, around 12 years ago, when we adopted Tilly and learned about the hugely important work that Cats Protection get up to.
By the time I'd moved out, the only person who wasn't a cat lover was my Dad, who sadly passed away in Summer 2018 due to cancer. My whole world felt like it had crumbled down, so naturally I looked to adopt more kitties to fix my empty home and my broken heart. This was the best decision I'd ever made, as the brother and sister that came home with me could not be kept by their owner at the time and are now my world, and make every day so much brighter just for having them in it.
My Mum has since adopted 4 more cats! We have adopted one more, a cat called Noodle, who came home with us just a few weeks ago! He was abandoned and thank you to the help of someone nearby, he was brought to our attention and we knew we had the space in our home and our hearts to offer him a forever family.
Most of the cats we have had in our lives have been abandoned at some point or another and were lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time so that we could be even luckier to call them part of the family. Sadly, lots of cats and kittens aren't as lucky, and that's where Cats Protection come in.
Cats Protection does fantastic work and is the UK's leading feline welfare charity, providing help to around 200,000 cats and kittens every year!
So I thought that I'd try and help! I am running 200 kilometres throughout October to raise money for Cats Protection so that they can continue to help and support more cats and kitties around the UK.
Their vision is a world where every cat is treated with kindness and an understanding of its needs, and they have clear objectives to help them:
Homing - Finding good homes for cats in need
Neutering - Supporting and encouraging the neutering of cats
Information - Improving people’s understanding of cats and their care
Achieving this vision is only made possible due to other cat lovers who support their work, so I'm hoping you can help us to help some beautiful kitties and cats in need.
