Story
A team of six DHU Health Care staff will be pushing the pedals in
the Huub Track Attaque 24-hour relay challenge for the mental health research charity MQ Mental Health.
The challenge is simple; how many laps can we do in 24hrs and
can we beat the other teams?
On the day, the team will be given the unique opportunity to take part in a 24 hour relay around the iconic 250 metre Derby Arena track, which has previously been ridden by cycling greats including Dame Sarah Storey, Mark Cavendish and Laura Kenny CBE, as you not only raise vital funds for MQ Mental Health, but get the chance to compete for a host of prizes.
The physically and mentally demanding challenge will see the riders facing the daunting task of staying awake, battling exhaustion and pushing themselves to the limit in order to make it to the end. It is a challenge of strength, determination and team spirit.
The six team members who will be pushing the pedals in a 24-hour
relay are:
- Robert Corke - Driver
- Simon Harris, MD for DHU LLR (Urgent Care)
- David Pigott - HR Compliance & Employee
Relations Officer - Philip James - 111 Call Advisor
- Roger Francis Nicholls - Nurse Advisor
- Ryan Fellows - Patient Administrator
For many it will be the first time they have used the velodrome in
Derby (or anywhere for that matter) so not only will they have to learn the legendary track, but they will also have to battle exhaustion to complete the 24-hour challenge.
Who will it help?
All funds raised by the DHU Health Care team will go towards MQ Mental Health. MQ Mental Health is a UK based charity who aim to create a world where mental illness is understood, effectively treated, and ultimately prevented. They are championing and funding research into mental health that will change millions of lives.
