Story
From small acorns...
There I was - sitting in a bar in Marrakech with Rod Smallwood, the man who not only bears the distinction of managing Iron Maiden, but also the one who motivated me to join him for one of his now infamous charity cycle rides - a remarkable group of people from every walk of life called the Truants. He turns to me and asks, 'so how are you getting to Download Festival then?'
A few beers later and he I were co-founding the Heavy Metal Truants, who'll be celebrating their fifth anniversary this June. It's an amazing bunch of people - fans, industry types, and artists who get together each year to cycle 164 miles between London and Download Festival for charity. To date we've raised £338,000 for Nordoff Robbins, Teenage Cancer Trust, and Childline - three incredible charities that do some truly heroic work to improve the lives of children and young people.
This year we want to add a lot more to that, so please donate generously. It isn't just about cash, though - each year we hold an annual raffle and memorabilia auction, which we call the Monster Rock Auction. We'll be launching that a little later this year, but if you're interested in your priceless rock and metal memorabilia to that worthy cause please get in touch! Thanks so much for your support - let's smash it. -A
