Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Recently my Grandad (Jack Hoult) was diagnosed with Alzheimers and it has really opened my eyes to the amount of people this illness affects. The thing is one day we could all get this disease, you really don't know when it's going to strike. This time last year my Grandad was a fine and healthy 78 year old man and now he requires around the clock care. I really just want to play my part in finding a cure / providing help for the victims of this disease that affects my family directly. This is why I want to raise money for the Alzheimers Society as they do great work to help both the victims and families of people who suffer from the disease.

The whole concept of the walk began when I was approached by a close friend Jake Warding who has been doing fundraising walks for the last ten years in memory of his brother Dale Warding who sadly passed away when he was 15. He told me a bit about him and I was touched by his story and agreed to take part as I saw this as a great opportunity to raise money for a great cause. Jake and my other friend Josh are raising money for an equally worthy charity, The Woodland Trust, in memory of Dale that you can donate to here: www.justgiving.com/thedaleway

As it is the tenth year anniversary since Dale's death, Jake wanted to take something on extra gruelling to commemorate his life. So, on April 24th Me Jake and Josh are flying to the South of France to begin a 553 mile pilgrimage from St-Jean-Pied-de-port through the rugged terrain of the Spanish Pyrenees and finishing at the most Westernly point of Spain know as 'The End of the World'. It's not going to be an easy task and is going to require months of training with a backpack and mountain boots prior to the walk to ensure we are ready when the time comes. It will take us roughly around 35 days averaging around 16-35km per day. Throughout we will be documenting our progress via videos and images so you can follow us on our journey. Donate as little or as much as you want, every little helps!
