Fundraising for Muscular Dystrophy UK
We are taking part in MDUK's Pedal Paddle Peak challenge, with the aim of raising £4,000, which will go towards the great work that the charity does for those with muscle wasting conditions. Pedal Paddle Peak is a three-part challenge, including a 30-mile cycle, a 2-mile canoe and a climb of Helvellyn, England's third highest mountain, all in one day. Completing it will take around 8-10 hours, and so our training has already begun. Muscular Dystrophy UK is a particularly personal charity to me, as a large number of my family live with Myotonic Dystrophy, one of the conditions covered by MDUK. This is a genetic condition whose symptoms include progressive muscle weakness and wasting, and which currently has no cure. I am fortunate enough not to have inherited the condition, but I see, both on a daily and long term basis, how it affects the rest of my family, and tens of thousands of others across the country. As it stands, there is no cure or specific treatment plan for the condition, and medical research in this field is limited by access to resources. Funds raised for MDUK go towards research towards a cure and treatment, and care and support for those with muscle-wasting conditions.
