Story
“The care experience – Past, present .. & future?” Is a unique conference that is being held on 26th April 2019 at Liverpool Hope University, Liverpool. The conference will bring together people of all ages with care experience to discuss their individual experiences of being in care and discuss how care might be improved for children in the future. We hope to include time for the care experienced delegates to debate and discuss the care system with professionals in the field to identify areas for improvement. Care is not a static process but a dynamic one, changing frequently and deeply personal, meaning different things to different people. That is why there can be no individual ‘experts’ on care. However, if care experienced people of all ages can sit down together to review what needs to be done to improve how we care for our children, there should be real lessons to be learned for those who make decisions. That is what the conference hopes to achieve.
The conference will bring together care experienced people of all ages. Some will be young people still in care. Some will be young care leavers and some will be older adults who left care many years ago. We also wish to include professionals working with young people in care as well as decision makers and regulators. It is anticipated that the conference could change the way care experienced people are consulted about care policies in the future and make a significant difference to future practice.
The conference is seeking urgently to raise funds in order to enable and support the widest possible diversity of care experienced people to be able to attend. Our target is £10,000, but any money left over from our fundraising when conference costs are met will be donated to charities supporting care experienced people.
Please donate generously. Every penny raised will go directly to supporting care experienced people to have a voice and be heard and to improve the way children in care are supported in future.”
