Story
Established in 1986, The Soup Kitchen is a resource for the homeless, elderly, lonely and vulnerable in London. They provide free meals, clothing, toiletries and a sense of belonging to over 140 people each day. Additionally, they recently launched Europe’s first-ever on-site mental health drop-in clinic, within a soup kitchen, to address guests' mental health needs. With the help of hundreds of volunteers each year, their aim is to provide a nutritious meal in a safe and warm environment that welcomes everyone.
In addition, they offer information about other important services for the vulnerable, including advice and referral information for other agencies focusing on different aspects of homelessness. They seek to provide assistance in a variety of ways, including help with letters and phone calls, liaising with social services, and encouragement and moral support.
For most of us, 2020 has been an incredibly difficult year. If you're homeless and vulnerable, however, it's been even more punishing. With the closure of so many other charities, the soup kitchen have had yet another influx of people visiting them each day for a hot meal. It's actually quite heart-breaking to witness. In the last two months, they have seen more and more people coming by who aren't homeless and just need a little help.
On behalf of the many hundreds of people they help each week and their entire organisation, a very sincere thank you.
