Story
We are a crew of four saturation divers called 'The Bubbleheads', better known as Andy, Lewis, Chris and James, who have entered the 'Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge' in December 2021.
This is a gruelling 3000 mile ocean rowing race that starts at La Gomera in the Canaries and finishes at Nelson's Dockyard in Antigua. It will take most participants between 30 and 40 days to complete the row. Our mental and physical endurance will be tested as each team will battle with sleep deprivation, salt sores, and waves that can reach up to 20 ft high!! It is considered to be the world's toughest row.
More people have climbed Everest than rowed the Atlantic but, no, we are not crazy! We are rowing this incredible challenge to raise money and awareness for Wessex Cancer Trust, a charity that is dear to us. They have helped James and his wife, Nikki to overcome and accept her life changing diagnosis of cancer.
After many operations and procedures, a course of chemotherapy and endless discussions with doctors, Nikki and James were left feeling lost and unsupported. Wessex have provided them with support when they were at their most isolated. Just knowing Wessex were there to support them offered a lifeline that was much needed.
Wessex Cancer Trust offer many forms of support; from a friendly cup of tea with one of their 'befrienders' to complimentary therapies, transport services and sessions with qualified councillors. They are welcoming, friendly and always aim to leave you feeling uplifted with a positive state of mind.
