Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our Just Giving page and for celebrating the life of our brilliant wife, mum, friend and teacher, Angela Brannan.
Our amazing Angela was taken from us far too soon, after metastatic pancreatic cancer was found in February 2021 and it was too late for any cure. She dealt with her diagnosis privately, not wanting to worry anyone. But even on the toughest of days, when she was challenged physically and emotionally, she never gave up hope. She was tenacious and stubbornly independent; wanting with all her might to live life to the fullest.
She was courageous beyond words.
Like Angela, most people who are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer are diagnosed when the cancer has spread and there are no curative options available. This is because symptoms often present vaguely, and are ignored or dismissed as something else.
Pancreatic cancer is a silent killer.
Sadly and unacceptably, more than half of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer die within 3 months. As a family we have been incredibly fortunate that Angela got 18 months after her diagnosis and blew every clinician's prognosis out of the water - but this still wasn't enough and there is a huge hole in our lives that we will never be able to fill. Like all families, we wanted and needed longer together.
In her memory, we would like to support Pancreatic Cancer UK and will also be raising money at her funeral for Marie Curie.
Pancreatic Cancer UK is dedicated to taking on the injustice faced by patients with this disease using every possible means. They're supporting people with pancreatic cancer now, campaigning, and funding vital research to transform the future.
Rachael through her career in cancer research, has been directly involved in some of the research that has been funded and is now a volunteer for the charity's research network.
With your help, we hope that together we can enable our world leading scientists to make the breakthroughs that people with pancreatic cancer so desperately need. Making treatments kinder and more effective, diagnosis earlier and survival longer.
