Story

Leading the fight against type 1 diabetes, JDRF is committed to funding research to improve lives and cure this disease – and has been doing so for the past 45 years. Type 1 diabetes is a lifelong autoimmune disease that destroys the body’s ability to process sugar by attacking the cells that produce insulin. Since people with type 1 diabetes cannot produce insulin naturally, they must take it either through multiple daily injections or from an insulin pump. In just the past few years, JDRF has achieved some major milestones. Here are some highlights: • 12.8 million needles avoided with the Federal Government’s Insulin Pump Program • 52 clinical trials and studies funded in the last FY • 960 support and education packs delivered to families newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes • Over $13 million invested into research in the last FY …and it’s all thanks to the generosity of people who share the vision of a world without type 1 diabetes. While we have made significant progress in understanding the disease and improving lives, there is still much work to be done. With your help, we can turn type one into type none.
