Where do we start....
Well, we work with Jon , the father ,and a few years ago he and his wife Amber had twins.
Jack and Charlie are twins who were born 8 weeks early at Winchester hospital on 13/07/10.
When they were delivered Jack was a forceps delivery and Charlie breech. Jack had trouble breathing when he was born which is when we thought the brain damage may have occured but we have been told it may have happened in the womb.
The 1st year was mostly about Charlie as had a hernia operation and discovered he has a hole in the heart (VSD) also had a hypospadias repair (penis operation).
When they were almost one it was noticed that Jack wasn't reaching his milestones like Charlie which ment he could not hold himself up, crawl, stand or sit unaided and was confirmed he had hypermobility which he started phsyio for.
It was only in May 2012 that he was diagnosed with spastic diplegic Cerebral Palsy.
He currently wears a lycra suit for his posture, splints to help with
his balance, a walker to get around and most recently has started using
sticks. He also now has a wheelchair.
We have been advised that he needs to have the Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) operation which means heading over to St. Louis in Missouri USA.
On this basis we need to raise money for this operation, physio and any equipment he may require.
So the 3 of us decided that something crazy was in order to get this little soldier on the move. So we take ourselves and our 3 super little cars on probably the longest journey of our lives in an effort to change just 1.
We are shipping the mini's from Southampton to New York mid March , and flying over to meet them when they arrive roughly teh 1st April.
We've already got stops to make in the mini community where hopefully you will see a convoy or two as we meet each club along the way.
We will be taking on, working on the cars in a massive temperature change as we go round from the cold of Canada to the baking sun of southern USA. Not to mention the frustration and challenges the cars will throw at us.
Totally relying on an enthusiasts knowledge of cars and mechanics. And the generosity and helpful nature of the people we meet along the way.
We are funding all of the trip us get to, and traverse America by other means , so all your donations here go directly to where it's needed.
£60,000 is the big target and they have made their halfway target of £30,000. So naturally our aim is the rest!
He is such a happy boy and to see him walk along side his twin would be one of the most amazing things.
