The 1000 Mile Cycle Ride · 30 June 2013
What's Going Down?
From June 30th to July 17th 2013, James Westmoreland and Harry Amos will be cycling over 1000 miles for WaterAid. Any support, financial or otherwise is greatly appreciated!
Some Facts:
The total distance will be 1059 miles. To give you a sense of perspective, the entire length of the UK from top to bottom is 645 miles. The Tour de France is approximately 2080 miles, billed as one of the toughest cycling events there is. We will be attempting half that in 18 days, compared with the full amount in 21 days.
During the ride, we will climb 50,729 feet. Again, to give persepctive, Mount Everest is 29,000 feet high.
The highest point on our ride will be 1419 feet up, near Bradford on the A6033, which is Day 9.
The furthest we will go in a single day is 88.5 miles from Peterborough to Manningtree on Day 12.
Why Should I Give?
WaterAid is an international non governmental organisation focused exclusively on improving access to safe water, improved hygiene and sanitation in some of the world’s poorest communities. WaterAid works in Africa, Asia and the Pacific region and campaigns globally to realise our vision of a world where everyone has access to safe water and sanitation.
Just £15 can give the life-changing gift of clean water to one person; but here's a list of stuff the money might go toward:
£12 can buy two taps for a village water point.
£15 can give the gift of water to one person.
£20 can buy 25 metres of pipe.
£46 can buy a family toilet.
£50 can buy a handpump.
£60 can buy a rainwater collection jar
£100 can help two people set up a soap making business.
