Story
3 cots, a Country and Countless Calories. Land’s End to John O’Groats, without leaving Manchester.
The recent pandemic has shown how much we care about each other, from the endless signage in the streets for the NHS to the numerous charitable support channels founded to help those at greatest need, during this arduous time
Matillion, the company Ben and I both work for, are a family. A family that truly cares about its people, their families and the communities they live in. Asides from the Corporate Social Responsibilities our organisation has, we as individuals try our best to live and breathe this ethos. We understand that we can do more to help others, and that’s exactly why this page exists.
More than 1 in 3 children in Manchester currently live in poverty. Wood Street Mission is a children's charity which helps families living in poverty in Manchester & Salford, providing practical help to meet children’s day-to-day needs and to improve their chances in life when these families need it.
Ben and I want to show you how much #wecare about this cause. To this end, as a team during July we are going to cover the entire length of the UK under our own steam in parts around Manchester- a whopping 1,400km in just a month between us. Think Lands End to John O'Groats, with a COVID friendly twist.
To make this particularly taxing we will be running at least 1/3rd of the total distance, covering the equivalent of 10 marathons by foot and the remaining 900km by pedal power.
I’ll cut to the chase
£100 can give a newborn a safe place to sleep, quite simply a cot, a mattress and bedding. We would like to contribute 3 of these to Wood Street Mission and we believe with your help, we can do it. If you can afford to contribute to our cause, that would be so awesome.
I’ll be posting updates on how we are getting towards our goal, please wish us our legs luck - we will need it!
Thanks,
Ben & John

Update 10/07/2020
Thank you to all 40+ people that have supported us to date, we are absolutely flabbergasted by the amount people want us to suffer to help these kids. We have upped the fundraising target to £2000 to keep things interesting (something we would have never even considered before!). In cot money that would be 20 babies with a safe start to life in their new beds, that’ll surely give everyone more warmth in their heart than a plus-sized Sunday dinner.

Update 28/07/2020
I can't reiterate enough how thankful Ben and I are for everyone's support to date, it has been pretty mind blowing and really has pushed us on throughout the month towards our goal.
To complete this odyssey with a , we are going for a big one on the final day of the month to really propel us over the 1400km mark. This will include a 100km+ bike ride followed by a half marathon in 's birth place - Knutsford.
It's meant to be an absolute scorcher here on Friday (31'C) so definitely a tough finish to a monumental month! We are now within touching distance of finishing (just don't tell my legs that! ).
