Story
This year will mark 20 years since we lost our precious son and brother Andrew Westley.
Andrew passed away on the 3rd of October 1997 age 28 after being diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia only a few days earlier. Even though he had been unwell for some time his sudden passing was a huge shock to the whole family, his wife and 2 young children. To this day he is missed very much.
Our parents Carol and Malcolm Westley decided to start raising money for Leukemia research (now called Bloodwise) 10 years ago and have raised an amazing total of £24,000 so far by organising annual music events in our home town of Rotherham. Andrew was a bass player and great lover of music and by organising music performance nights they managed to bring together Andrew's friends and family each year in memory of him.
This year will be the last time they will host a charity night so we wanted to try and raise as many funds as possible through different ways. Tickets for this year's event are nearly sold out (event details here: http://bit.ly/AndrewWestley) and we know some people can't make it on that date but would still like to contribute so they can now do so through this JustGiving page.
Even if you didn't know Andrew personally it's very likely you know someone whose life has been affected by cancer so we would appreciate a small donation in Andrew's name.
The Bloodwise charity receives no government funding and is entirely dependent on voluntary donations from fundraising events or individuals in order to fund its research.
If you are able to make a donation then you can also be part of a draw to win 2 tickets to this year's Neighbourhood Festival in Manchester on October 7th. If you would like to have a chance at winning the tickets then please leave a comment after making a donation stating that you would like to take part in the draw. Please also leave your contact details so we can get in touch. The line-up for this year's festival includes Peace, Rat Boy, Cabbage, The Amazons.....and off course The Subways who were very kind to donate 2 tickets! More info on the festival here: http://www.neighbourhoodfestival.com.
