****MARATHON RUNNERS* AND DISTANCES ANNOUNCED! SEE MAIN IMAGE****
****UPDATE 2: If you want to follow the participants on social media, SEES will be running live updates on Twitter (https://twitter.com/EarthSciStA) and Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/earthsci_sta/). We'll also keep this Results Table updated throughout the day: https://bit.ly/3cKPUwU*****
As you’re probably aware, the London Marathon has been cancelled this year – meaning that all that charity money isn’t going to be raised. With so many fundraising events cancelled, many charities are going to be struggling at the moment. To help, the organisers of the London Marathon have started the 2.6 challenge: https://www.twopointsixchallenge.co.uk/
Their idea is to do *SOMETHING* on 26th April to raise money, related to the number 2.6 or 26. Well, the faculty of the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences are going to run a marathon! Sort of!
A brave group of us SEES staff are going to each run/walk/cycle part of a marathon, as a virtual relay. In fact - not just one marathon - four concurrent "races" are going to start at 9.30am on 26th April (when the Elite Ladies would normally be starting the London Marathon) - each leg is going to be completed by a different member of staff. Even our Head of School is taking part!
We're hoping to raise £1413 to donate to the Scottish Association for Mental Health (https://www.samh.org.uk/). As SAMH say, we all have mental health, and in these lonely and anxious times, our mental health is just as important as our physical health.
So, please give as much or as little as you like - just imagine your least favourite lecturer struggling around Fife, for this great cause. We'll keep this page updated with race schedules and who the "competitors" are going to be.
Thanks!
Paul Savage and all at SEES
